Y6's Visit to the Magistrates' Court 24/02/16

Today we visited the magistrates’ court. Two of the busy magistrates took the morning out of their busy schedule to teach us all about their job and the types of crimes they deal with. It shocked us that children as young as ten years old visit these courts!

We acted out a role play scenario whilst we were there. Some of us played the magistrates, the lawyers, the usher as well as the suspect, the victim and key witnesses. The scenario was based around a cyber bullying case. We heard all evidence, from both sides, then the magistrates retired to make their decision…Guilty!

A district judge came to tell us how her role was different. She was amazed at all of our questions.

We had a great day at the courts and found it very interesting.
