Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Happy Puzzle Company

Tom from the ‘Happy Puzzle Company’ was in school today and all the classes got a chance to work in teams to solve a range of his puzzles. It was great fun and some of the Year 6 children were so good at them that Tom had to set them some extra challenges. Well done, Year 6!

Cyclewise

Andy and Chris from Cyclewise are in school this week. They are delivering the Bikeabilty training programme - it’s about gaining practical skills and understanding how to cycle on today’s roads.

Florence Arts Centre

As part of their Bright Stars scheme, Year 6 visited the arts centre at Florence mine. They had a go at making their own pastels, how to pack them ready for sale, and then designed and printed their own greetings cards. A busy morning out!

Play in a Day

Jason from Lynx Theatre was in school today to do a ‘Play in a Day’ with the Year 6s. We had chosen the play, ‘I don’t know what I was worried about!’ which deals with transition to secondary school. It was a great day and the children got to perform their play to KS2 at the end. Bravo!

Electrical Circuits

Today, Year 6 had a practical science lesson. They investigated the variables that might affect the brightness of a bulb in a circuit. There’s definitely some future electrical engineers in this class!

World Book Day 2022

Our theme this year was “wild things.” The children enjoyed dressing up and taking part in various activities throughout the day.

Electricity Workshop

Today, Year 6 had an electricity workshop delivered by control systems engineers from Sellafield’s STEM outreach. The children followed instructions and built many kinds of circuits; what a fun-filled morning!

Author, Ross McKenzie

Today, we had a special visitor - Ross McKenzie, author of ‘The Nowhere Emporium,’ ‘Shadowsmith,’ and ‘Evernight.’ He talked to the children about what inspired him, the creative process, and answered a whole range of questions. The budding writers then had a chance to finish one of Ross’ horror stories - all about spiders!

Christmas Party Day

‘Tis the season to be jolly…Today was party day and each class had the chance to go to the school hall for some fun and games. Year 6 certainly still believe in the magic of Christmas!

Science is fun!

In Science today we have been classifying sweets to get practice with question keys. The children had some fantastic ideas for separating the different sweets and got to eat them once they'd finished! Yum!
