Our Class

Welcome to year 1, where we like to have lots of fun,

We are always yearning, to increase our learning

And we are proud to share with you what we've done!

The Great Fire of London

We begun our history topic exploring similarities and differences in London between 2024 & 1666.  Before exploring how the fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane.

Class Assembly

We enjoyed taking our parents and the rest of the school on a journey around the world through our story 'Lost & Found'.

Design & Technology competition

National Science Week

We enjoyed this years theme of time by observing the changes over a short time of eggs into chicks.  It was sad when we had to say goodbye when they went to live at their new home.

World Book Day

We enjoyed working with children from other classes to create our own story inspired by the book YOU CHOOSE by Pippa Godhart.

Materials

In Science we have been learning about materials.  We have learnt about materials and their properties and spent time sorting them.  We have also tested materials to see if they are waterproof and transparent.

Shape 🟡🔺🟩 

In maths we learnt the names of shapes, how to describe their position and explored shape patterns.

What are our senses? 👁️👂👄👃👋🏾

As part of our science topic on animals we explored what makes humans animals and explored each of our senses.

DT Structures 

In DT we have been learning about structures.  Mr Johnson asked us to make a windmill to help him read the weather.  We made a stable structure, sails to catch the wind and a rotor.  We then decorated them.  After that we tested our structures inside and outside.

Sponsored Walk 

We enjoyed completing 16 laps, 1 mile, on the MUGA to raise money to help Charlie.

In geography we have been learning all about the UK.

🌲Trees🌳

In science we have been learning about trees.  We have learnt to name the different parts of a tree and also to name trees by looking at the leaves and seeds.  We have also planted some acorn and horse chestnut seeds.

In autumn term we have been busy learning at Forest School.

School Council 

We are proud to introduce the Year 1 school council representatives for 2023/24.  We had lots of willing candidates but these two won a very close vote.

🌻🍁Seasons ☃️🌷

We have been exploring the weather and seasons.  We are busy keeping a weather diary to see how the weather changes and going for a monthly meander to observe the changes to the plants and trees.

We had a great time revisiting our skills with Nat Pattison in wheelchair basketball.
